God supplies

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:19 (KJV)

What does this mean?

Paul is writing from prison to the church in Philippi, who have just sent him a gift to help him in his need. He thanks them, and then he turns their generosity back into a promise: the God who supplied them will supply every need they have, out of his own abundant riches. The verse is about needs, not wants, and the supply comes from God's riches, not from their bank balance.

What does this teach us?

God's provision is measured by his riches, not by your resources. Paul does not promise that every wish will be granted, but that the God who has plenty will meet the real needs of his people.

How can we apply this?

When a need presses on you, bring it to God plainly instead of carrying the worry alone. Then look at what you already have with fresh eyes: the God who met yesterday's need is the same God who holds today's, and he has not run out.

Reflection

What need are you worried about today, and what would it look like to trust God's riches with it instead of your own resources?

Prayer

Father, my needs feel bigger than what I have, and I am worried about how they will be met. Thank you that you supply out of your own riches, and help me to trust you with what I need today. Amen.
