With God

“But Jesus beheld them , and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 19:26 (KJV)

What does this mean?

Jesus has just watched a rich young man walk away, unwilling to give up his wealth, and the disciples are stunned. They ask who can possibly be saved if even a good, rich, religious man cannot manage it, and Jesus looks at them and answers plainly. What people cannot do for themselves, he says, God can do — the verse is about being saved, which is God's work, not something anyone earns or achieves.

What does this teach us?

Salvation is not a prize for the strong or the good. Jesus puts the impossible on God's side: where human effort runs out, God's power begins, and that is why no one is beyond his reach.

How can we apply this?

If you have ever thought you are too far gone, too tangled up, or too late for God to save you, this verse says otherwise. Stop measuring your chances by what you can do, and trust the God who can do what you cannot — and if someone you love feels beyond reach, keep praying, because the same God can reach them.

Reflection

What impossible thing have you decided God cannot do, and what would it look like to hand it to him?

Prayer

Lord, I have been measuring everything by what I can do, and the answer keeps coming back impossible. Thank you that what is impossible for me is possible for you, and help me to trust you with what I cannot fix. Amen.
