No room
“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Luke 2:7 (KJV)
What does this mean?
Mary has traveled to Bethlehem with Joseph, and the time comes for her baby to be born. She gives birth to her first son, wraps him in strips of cloth — the old word is swaddling clothes — and lays him in a manger, a feeding trough for animals, because the place where travelers stayed had no space left for them. The King James calls that place the 'inn,' though many scholars think the word means a guest room in a house that was already full. Either way, the verse is simple and plain: the King of the world begins his life in the humblest place imaginable, with no room made for him.
What does this teach us?
God's Son entered the world without fanfare or comfort. The manger is not a decoration; it is the truth about how far God was willing to come down, and how little room the world had for him when he came.
How can we apply this?
This Christmas, look at the manger and ask whether there is room for Jesus in your life. Not in the busy schedule or the crowded house, but in your heart — make a little room today, a quiet moment, an honest prayer, a place for him to rest.

Reflection
Is there room for Jesus in your life right now, and what would making room look like?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you were born into a world that had no room for you, and I do not want my life to be the same. I make room for you today — come and rest in my heart. Amen.
