Courage
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
What does this mean?
God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous, not to be afraid or discouraged, because the Lord his God is with him wherever he goes. Joshua was facing the enormous responsibility of leading God's people into a new land after Moses. The command to be brave is grounded in one fact: God goes with him.
What does this teach us?
Courage did not come from knowing everything would be easy; it came from trusting that God would be with him. Strength here is not self-confidence — it is confidence in God's presence. Fear is real, but it is not the final word when God is near.
How can we apply this?
Name the thing you are afraid to face, and take one step toward it today — a hard conversation, a new beginning, a step of obedience. Remind yourself that the promise is not that the path will be easy, but that God goes with you on it. Do the brave thing while you are still afraid.
