Love and obedience
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
John 14:15 (KJV)
What does this mean?
Jesus says that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. Love and obedience are joined here, not separated. Christians have understood the connection in slightly different ways — some read obedience as the evidence that love is real, others as the natural fruit that love produces — but all agree the two belong together.
What does this teach us?
Obedience is not the price of God's love; it is the shape love takes. We do not obey to earn His affection, but because we love Him, His ways become the ways we want to walk. A love that never changes how we live is not the love Jesus is describing.
How can we apply this?
Pick one command of Jesus you have been avoiding — forgiving someone, being honest, giving generously — and take one concrete step on it today. Do not do it to earn points; do it because you love Him. Notice how obedience follows love, not the other way around.

Reflection
Which of Jesus' commands is your love for Him asking you to obey today?
Prayer
Jesus, I love You, and I want my life to show it. Help me obey You not out of fear or duty, but out of love — one step at a time. Amen.
