God fights for you

“The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

Exodus 14:14 (KJV)

What does this mean?

The Israelites are trapped at the sea with Pharaoh's army closing in behind them, and they are terrified. Moses tells them that God himself will fight for them, and that their part is to 'hold their peace', which in the King James means to stay quiet and calm and let him do it. Just before this, Moses also told them to stand still and see the Lord's rescue. The verse comes at the moment when there is nothing left for them to do, no army to raise, no road to run down, only the sea in front and the enemy behind.

What does this teach us?

There are battles you cannot win by trying harder. This verse says God's people do not have to fight every fight, sometimes the faithful thing is to stay quiet and calm and let God fight the one you cannot.

How can we apply this?

If you are facing a fight that is bigger than you, a debt, a diagnosis, a broken relationship, stop striving for a day and let God carry it. Do the small thing that is yours to do, and leave the impossible part to him.
